Students in the inaugural Human Interest Stories for Broadcasting class welcomed legendary singer/songwriter Dr. Melvin Steals to class on Wednesday, January 15. Dr. Steals, who earned a doctorate in education at the University of Pittsburgh, along with his twin brother, has written more than 300 songs. His biggest hit, "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" (recorded by the Spinners), reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1973.
A native of Aliquippa, one of Dr. Steals songs, "Treat 'Em Right," was featured in the feature film "Grils Trip."
Human Interest Stories for Broadcasting is a new class in the Film & Media Studies Program. Students shoot, edit, write and produce different styles of feature package stories suitable for television broadcasting.
