Julie Nakama is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of English, and earned a PhD in Film Studies and English from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017. Her dissertation "Shopping the Look: Hollywood Costume Production and American Fashion Consumption, 1960-1969” examined the relationships among gender, methods of costume production, and modes of consumer address in Hollywood during the post-studio era. Her research interests include American film history, gender and industry studies, stardom, costume and fashion history, and material culture studies.
